Storage Downham Modern Slavery Statement
This Modern Slavery Statement sets out the steps taken by Storage Downham to prevent modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour and exploitation within our operations and supply chains. We recognise our responsibility to act ethically and transparently, and we are committed to continually improving our practices to safeguard the rights and dignity of all people who may be impacted by our business.
Our Zero-Tolerance Approach
Storage Downham has a clear and unequivocal zero-tolerance policy towards modern slavery and human trafficking. We will not knowingly engage with, support or do business with any individual or organisation involved in such practices. This commitment extends to all areas of our business, including our own workforce, contractors, suppliers and any third parties acting on our behalf.
All colleagues, including temporary and agency workers, are expected to uphold this policy. Any breach is treated as a serious matter and may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment or business relationships.
Our Supply Chain and Due Diligence
Our supply chain includes providers of storage equipment, maintenance services, facilities management, utilities, technology, and professional services. We recognise that risks may arise at different tiers of the supply chain and we therefore apply a risk-based approach to due diligence.
Before entering into new supplier relationships, we assess the ethical standards and labour practices of potential partners. We expect suppliers to comply with all applicable laws on employment, labour, and human rights, and to be able to demonstrate effective safeguards against modern slavery and human trafficking.
Supplier Audits and Ongoing Monitoring
Storage Downham undertakes supplier audits and monitoring activities proportionate to the risk profile of each supplier. Where we identify higher-risk categories or geographies, we prioritise those suppliers for review. Our audits may include requesting documentary evidence of labour practices, conducting site visits where appropriate, and reviewing supplier policies and training.
If concerns arise regarding potential modern slavery within a supplier’s operations, we will work collaboratively to address and remediate the issue where possible. However, if a supplier is unwilling or unable to take adequate corrective action, we reserve the right to suspend or terminate the relationship.
Policies, Training and Awareness
Our commitment to preventing modern slavery is supported by internal policies on ethical conduct, human rights, recruitment, and whistleblowing. These policies are communicated to employees as part of induction and ongoing training programmes. We emphasise the importance of vigilance and personal responsibility in identifying and reporting any suspected exploitation.
Managers receive guidance to help them recognise warning signs of labour abuse, particularly in relation to temporary, migrant or agency workers. We also encourage our suppliers to provide similar training within their own organisations.
Reporting Channels and Protection
Storage Downham encourages anyone connected with our business, including employees, contractors and suppliers, to report any concerns related to modern slavery or human trafficking. Concerns can be raised through internal reporting channels or directly to management, in confidence.
We do not tolerate victimisation or retaliation against anyone who raises concerns in good faith. All reports are taken seriously and investigated promptly and sensitively. Where appropriate, we will cooperate with law enforcement and relevant authorities.
Continuous Improvement and Annual Review
We understand that tackling modern slavery is an ongoing process. Storage Downham is committed to continuously improving our systems, controls and awareness to better identify and reduce risks. We periodically review our supplier risk assessments, audit findings and training materials to ensure they remain effective and relevant.
This Modern Slavery Statement will be reviewed at least annually by the senior management team. As part of that review, we will evaluate the effectiveness of our actions over the previous year and identify further steps to strengthen our approach. Updated versions of this statement will reflect any changes in our operations, legal requirements or best practice standards.
This statement has been approved by the leadership of Storage Downham, who are responsible for ensuring its implementation across the business.
